Comments: pBS185 carries the wt cre gene under the control of the major immediate early promoter and enhancer of human cytomegalovirus (hCMV). This is a strong promoter that gives fairly generalized expression. However, it is not a strong promoter in embryonic stem (ES) cells. The construct also carries the mouse metallothionein MT-I region including the polyadenylation site and several introns. For higher level expression in general and for better expression in ES cells plasmid pBS513 is superior. The sequence shown includes cre and the metallothionein region.
