Department Description

Research in the laboratory of molecular biology aims to identify the genes, circuits, cells, macromolecular assemblies and individual molecules that contribute to the function and dysfunction of the mammalian brain. Scientists in the laboratory of molecular biology have developed a suite of novel approaches based on the manipulation of bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs) to investigate the histological and functional complexities of the mammalian brain in vivo and to understand how these mechanisms become dysfunctional in disease.

Detailed Description

The Bioinformatics Specialist will contribute to work focused on understanding the changes that occur in the brain in Huntington's disease; our ultimate goal being the identification of novel strategies that will slow the progression of the disease. Will assist with this effort by being responsible for large-scale genomic data management. The Bioinformatics Specialist will assist with this effort by being responsible for large-scale genomic data management. Will maintain accurate and complete records of all analysis projects and collaborate closely with experimental biologists to ensure efficient workflow.

Job Requirements

Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics or a related field is required. Must be highly creative and motivated, and have a solid bioinformatics background, including familiarity with open source bioinformatics tools/ databases, next generation sequence alignment for RNA-Seq, ATAC-Seq, bisulfite (BS)-Seq and oxBS-Seq experiments, quality assurance processes, differential expression analysis and methods for data visualization. As this job is both a service position and an opportunity to develop and/or utilize sophisticated approaches for data analysis, fluency in R/python is required, experience with Unix is mandatory. Interest in exploring new technologies and platforms to keep pace with rapid advances in sequencing technology is encouraged. Knowledge of transcriptional regulation and epigenetics is a plus.
