Title: Cell-Type Resolved Gene Expression And Its Applications To Neuroscience With NeuroExpresso

Biography: My research lies at the intersection of bioinformatics and neuroscience, with a focus on genomics. Please see the lab page for more information.

Synopsis: Genomics applications in neuroscience are being dramatically impacted by new technologies that resolve features at the cell type or single cell level. In this webinar, Dr. Pavlidis will describe tools his lab has created to increase the availability and utility of brain transcriptomes, focusing on the cell-type resolved database NeuroExpresso (http://neuroexpresso.org/). We'll discuss how cell-type based expression can be used to help decipher patterns in transcriptomes obtained from mixed-cell-type samples from postmortem human brain ("bulk tissue"), introducing computational tools accessible in the R statistical computing environment.
