Description: Mutation affecting haematopoiesis identified in a screen for ENU-induced mutations at Mill Hill. Positional cloning identified it as a nonsense mutation in smad4.1. Homozygous mutants have little or no circulating blood cells. An unusual lump around the proctodeum is visible as early as ~stage 37, with subsequent ventral fin defects.
