Welcome to NIF-SciCrunch

We are pleased to announce the long-awaited arrival of the new integrated NIF portal, built on our novel architecture, SciCrunch.  SciCrunch essentially lets us create a social network for data and tools.  We've noted in our many years in surveying the resource landscape as part of NIF that many projects want the same thing:  a custom portal where they can search for resources.  SciCrunch makes it easy for any community to set up their own portal on the vast resource databases that NIF originally built.  For more information about SciCrunch, see our recent publication on the NIDDK Information Network (dkNET).

So what does this mean for NIF?  A new platform with the same functionality and more.  We still do simultaneous search across our resource registry (now called the SciCrunch Resource Registry), our ever expanding Data Federation and the Literature.  We still provide faceted browsing and filtering so you can find what you want.  So what is new?

The new NIF is configured to work on mobile devices and tablets and provides convenient features like creating custom collections of search results, easier saving of search results and custom alerts based on these saved searches.  If you have a resource registered to NIF, we provide an analytics tool suite to allow you to track mentions of your resource in the literature and its use by other SciCrunch communities.  We'll be posting tutorials on all these features, but we've created a basic one to get you started.  We'll also be implementing more new features like Live Help in the near future.
