Browse ZIRC data in NIF

The Zebrafish International Resource Center (ZIRC) is a resource aimed at providing a central repository and distribution site for wild-type and mutant strains of zebrafish (Danio rerio) and for materials and information about zebrafish research. Pathology services are provided for diseased fish.
ZIRC and ZFIN are sister organizations. ZIRC pages provide information about available resources and services, and they are extensively cross-linked to ZFIN, an on-line database of information about zebrafish genetics, genomics, and development.
ZIRC is a database of both wild-type and mutant zebrafish strains, and we begin our NIF search by entering a specfic geneotype background of interest, gene:AB.
The search results for "gene:AB" pull up a variety of different resources. Opening the “Animals” tree allows us to see the relevant species databases. Selecting “ZIRC: Zebrafish” pulls up a list of all transgenic zebrafish on an AB background available for purchase through ZIRC:
The ZIRC page provides the genomic information available for the transgenic fish, and allows the user to either place an order for the specimen found through the NIF search, or to begin a new search using the ZIRC engine.
In addition to animal ordering services, ZIRC also provides PCR protocols for many of their animals. Begin by searching for “gene:tg”. This will pull up a list of all transgenic specimens.
Select the “Animals” tab and “ZIRC:Zebrafish” as above to view all available animals from the ZIRC. On the right is a column labeled “protocol link” which, if filled out, links to a PDF file of the PCR protocol for genotyping the specimen.
Clicking “click here” will pull up a .pdf file of the PCR protocol.
