ZFIN serves as the zebrafish model organism database. This view of the database includes the transgenic fish, but not the wild-types. The long term goals for ZFIN are a) to be the community database resource for the laboratory use of zebrafish, b) to develop and support integrated zebrafish genetic, genomic and developmental information, c) to maintain the definitive reference data sets of zebrafish research information, d) to link this information extensively to corresponding data in other model organism and human databases, e) to facilitate the use of zebrafish as a model for human biology and f) to serve the needs of the research community.

This database houses much more information than we are able to expose in the NIF view about zebrafish, most specifically we currently do not index the information for the wild type zebrafish. However, we do index the information about mutant fish.

To access these data we may start by asking about a specific gene such as the gene:olig2 query, or we can start by asking about a neuron type.  Below we ask about motor neurons and their axons.

Note that the terms we used expanded to include synonyms and there are results from the zebrafish database under Nervous System Level > Genes. Exposed on the NIF interface are stages where a particular affected structure or process are present and the particular phenotype in addition there are some data about the type of environment that the fish were exposed to.

Clicking on any of the publications leads to the particular pubmed entry for that record.

Clicking on the Genotype leads to the record in the ZFIN database.

Note, from this page one can see how the phenotype was generated, some of the data that has been published for this animal, as well as a link back to ZIRC where the animal can be obtained.
