WormBase Anatomy Tutorial

WormBase Anatomy ontology is a controlled vocabulary for cellular anatomy. 

Data from this source can be found in the NIF systems by searching for either an individual neuron or a type of neuron such as M1, Gabaergic neuron, or motor neuron.


Below we search for motor neuron.

The motor neuron associations in the NIF vocabulary are mainly from vertebrates, but worm data is accessible under Nervous System Level > Cellular Level.
Each entry for an individual cell (anatomy term) has a description and a list of genes found to be expressed in that cell.

Clicking on the anatomy term column, leads the user to the WormBaseAnatomy ontology pages, shown below.  Here there is an additional set of data including synonyms, the ontology tree showing the searched term (motor neuron in the present case) and associated genetic patterns for various genes.
