T3DB Tutorial

For up to date issues or problems with this database please see the wiki

Toxin and Toxin Target Database (T3DB) is a unique bioinformatics resource that combines detailed toxin data with comprehensive toxin target information. The database currently houses thousands of toxins and synonyms, including pollutants, pesticides, drugs, and food toxins, which are linked to corresponding toxin target records.

To search for these the best strategy is to type in your favorite toxin.  Below we search for Pertussis Toxin.

Results for these data are found in: Data Type > Drugs
The data exposed through the NIF interface includes the toxin, a brief description, typical exposure to the toxin, any health effects of exposure, treatment, as well as mechanism of action toxicity and metabolism.  The synonym column (far left) includes several types of data, if they are available including the chemical formula, IUPAC name and a series of identifiers for the toxin in the major databases such as KEGG, SuperToxic, and Uniprot.

Clicking on the blue link for Pertussis toxin takes the user to the drug card in the t3db where a great deal of additional information has been gathered, including 3D structures, and in depth toxin targets.
