IMSR Tutorial

For up to date issues or problems with this database please see the wiki.

The IMSR is a searchable online database of mouse strains and stocks available worldwide, including inbred, mutant, and genetically engineered mice. The goal of the IMSR is to assist the international scientific community in locating and obtaining mouse resources for research. Note, that the data content found in the IMSR is as it was supplied by data provider sites.

The listing of transgenic animals is very complete as contributing repositories include: APF, CARD, CMMR, EMMA, EMS, HAR, HLB, JAX, KOMP, MMHCC, MMRRC, MTG, MUGEN, NIG, NMICE, ORNL, RBRC, TAC, and TIGM.

So if someone wanted to find a live mouse that was a GRM1 mutant, one may type in the query as “live mouse” mutant grm1.  Just typing in grm1 or mutant mouse will also work.

Now the result set is limited by the various constraints, but IMSR does come up in the database tab with the following result:

Clicking on the link will take the user to the IMSR page for that mouse strain shown below:

Here, we find that NMICE has the live mutant mouse. If we click on the Strain name we are taken to the NeuroMICE site, where we can purchase the mouse.
